Antalya or Istanbul for your hair transplant?

Antalya old town with its clock tower and fluted minaret, the Mediterranean and the Taurus Mountains behind

Neither city is better for the surgery itself: your result depends on the doctor, the team and the plan, not the city. Istanbul is Turkey’s biggest city and main air hub. Antalya is a smaller coastal city with direct UK flights of around four hours, many of them seasonal. Choose the clinic first, then weigh the travel.

Key takeaways

  • The city does not make a hair transplant safer or more successful; the clinic and the doctor do.
  • Direct flights from the UK to Antalya take around four to four and a half hours, with more routes in summer than in winter.
  • There is no reliable published data showing one city is cheaper; compare written quotes for the same graft number and inclusions.
  • You can stay by the sea, but the NHS advises against treating the days after surgery as a holiday: rest, and avoid sun, swimming and alcohol.
  • Use the UK and Turkish surgeons’ associations’ checklist wherever you go.

Is Antalya or Istanbul better for a hair transplant?

For the surgery, neither. The things that shape your result, such as who operates, how the grafts are handled and how carefully your hairline is planned, are the same questions in both cities. The real differences are practical: travel, pace and setting.

Istanbul is a vast city with two international airports and many clinics. Antalya, on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast, is smaller and calmer, with one main airport, and is a well-known holiday destination for UK travellers. Which suits you depends on how you like to travel and recover.

Factor Antalya Istanbul
Setting Coastal city, slower pace Very large, busy city
Airports Antalya Airport (AYT) Istanbul Airport (IST) and Sabiha Gökçen (SAW)
Direct UK flights Many routes, most frequent in summer Year-round scheduled flights from major UK airports
Flight time from the UK Around 4 to 4.5 hours Broadly similar
What decides your result The doctor, team, plan and aftercare The doctor, team, plan and aftercare

Our clinic is on Lara Caddesi in Antalya. Every package includes VIP transfers between the airport, your hotel and the clinic, so you do not need to find your own way around after a flight or on the day of surgery.

How long is the flight from the UK to Antalya?

A direct flight from the UK to Antalya takes around four hours, and up to about four and a half from some regional airports. Turkey is three hours ahead of UK winter time and two hours ahead in British Summer Time.

As an example, the summer 2026 SunExpress timetable for East Midlands shows a 14:10 departure arriving in Antalya at 20:40 local time, which is about four and a half hours in the air once the two-hour summer time difference is taken off. The flight to Istanbul is of broadly similar length, so flight time is rarely what decides between the two cities.

Plan your return flight with your recovery in mind. Our itinerary is built around a three-day stay: arrival, consultation and hairline drawing with the doctor on day 1, the procedure on day 2, and a check-up and first wash on day 3 before you fly home. The NHS advises that rest is essential after surgery, so choose flight times that let you travel without rushing.

Are prices different in Antalya and Istanbul?

Not in any way that can be measured reliably. No official or independent source we know of publishes like-for-like hair transplant prices by Turkish city. Prices vary far more between clinics, techniques and packages than between cities.

Our 2026 all-inclusive packages are €1,599 to €6,000 for FUE, €1,690 to €6,400 for DHI and €1,999 to €6,400 for Sapphire FUE. They include surgery, local anaesthesia and sedation, hotel, VIP transfers, medication, shampoo and lotion, and 12 months of follow-up. Where you sit in each range depends on how many grafts you need and which package you choose.

When you compare quotes, from either city, check the graft number, technique, who performs the surgical steps, hotel nights, transfers and the length of follow-up. A headline price with fewer inclusions can end up costing more. Our guide to hair transplant costs in Turkey goes through this in detail, and the graft and price estimator gives you a quick guide figure.

Can I recover by the sea after surgery?

You can stay somewhere calm with a sea view, but the days after a hair transplant are for resting, not for the beach. The NHS advises against having a holiday straight after surgery and recommends avoiding sun, swimming and alcohol while you recover.

The NHS guidance on surgery abroad says it is unrealistic to have a holiday straight after surgery as this can increase the risk of things going wrong. Your clinic’s aftercare instructions will tell you how to protect your scalp, when to wash it and when you can return to normal activities. Our recovery timeline explains what to expect week by week.

Season matters too. Antalya’s summers are hot and sunny, and a 2026 review of FUE complications lists summer procedures among the risk factors for folliculitis, an inflammation of the hair follicles that usually settles without lasting effects. That is not a reason to avoid summer, but it is a reason to follow aftercare instructions closely, keep the scalp out of direct sun and avoid swimming until your clinic says it is safe.

If you would like time by the sea, the simplest approach is to plan it as a separate trip. If you want a calmer stay around the procedure itself, the Premium package includes 5 to 6 nights in a 5-star hotel and a personal assistant.

Which UK airports fly direct to Antalya?

Direct flights to Antalya run from many UK and Irish airports, especially between spring and autumn, with fewer options in winter. Routes and airlines change every season, so check the current timetable for your nearest airport before you pick dates.

Some routes are clearly seasonal. SunExpress, for example, said in June 2025 that it would fly direct from East Midlands to Antalya from Easter to the end of October 2026, up to three times a week, and that it would serve 14 airports across the UK and Ireland in summer 2026, including a new twice-weekly route from Cork to Antalya. The published Cork schedule ran from 16 May to 7 July 2026.

Practical tips for UK and Irish patients:

  • Check direct options from your nearest airport for your exact dates, especially between November and March.
  • If there is no direct flight, a connection through Istanbul is a common alternative.
  • Book a return flight on day 3 or later, in line with your itinerary, and avoid very early or very late flights if you can.
  • Pack a loose, button-up top and any medicines you normally take, and carry your clinic’s aftercare instructions in your hand luggage.

What matters more than the city you choose?

The clinic, and specifically the doctor who plans and performs your surgery. UK and Turkish surgeons’ associations agree on a short checklist that applies in Antalya, Istanbul or anywhere else.

The minimum guidelines published in December 2023 by BAHRS, BAAPS, BAPRAS and TSPRAS say you should meet the doctor who will perform your surgery, have time to consider the plan and consent form before paying, be told if a technician will make incisions or implant grafts, and be able to rely on the clinic to deal with complications. They also say complications are reduced when the surgical steps are done by a doctor.

Our clinic follows these guidelines: you meet the operating doctor on day 1, the doctor performs the surgical steps on day 2, and you have time to review your plan before you pay. The Foreign Office also reminds travellers that private companies have a financial interest in booking your treatment, so use independent sources as well as clinic websites. Our checklist on whether a hair transplant in Turkey is safe lists the questions to ask.

When you are ready, send four photos on WhatsApp (front, top, crown and back) to +44 7988 487 251. A doctor reviews them and you receive a written plan and price, with no deposit to get it. You can also reach us through the contact page or read more about the clinic.

Frequently asked questions

Is Antalya a good place for a hair transplant?

Antalya can be a good choice if you want a calmer coastal city with direct flights from the UK of around four hours. The city itself does not determine your result, though. Choose a licensed clinic where you meet the doctor who will operate, the doctor performs the surgical steps and follow-up is clearly agreed in writing.

Is a hair transplant cheaper in Istanbul than in Antalya?

There is no reliable published data showing that one city is cheaper. Prices vary much more between clinics, techniques, graft numbers and packages than between cities. Compare written quotes for the same number of grafts and check what each includes, such as hotel nights, transfers, medication and the length of follow-up.

Do I need to arrange transport in Antalya?

No. Every package includes VIP transfers between the airport, your hotel and the clinic, so you are collected when you land and taken to each appointment. That matters most on the day of your procedure and the day after, when you should be resting rather than finding your own way around the city.

When can I fly home after a hair transplant in Antalya?

Our itinerary has you flying home on day 3, after a check-up and your first wash at the clinic. Day 1 is arrival, consultation and hairline drawing with the doctor, and day 2 is the procedure. Book a return flight that leaves time for the day 3 appointment without rushing.

Can I fly to Antalya from the UK in winter?

Yes, but there are usually fewer direct flights than in summer, and some routes only run between spring and autumn. Check direct options from your nearest airport for your exact dates. If there is no direct flight, a connection through Istanbul is a common alternative.
